OpenSubsonic

Radiccio Server uses the OpenSubsonic protocol as the primary way to communicate with its own client (Radiccio players). We do not have any separate, proprietary protocol for client-server communication, and we have no intention of developing one. As much as possible, we try to make our client use the same requests and responses that other developers’ clients would use, in order to make sure we are providing a solid, reliable experience for users no matter which player they choose.

That said, there are cases where we have added our own extensions or made changes in order to accommodate unique features and functionality of Radiccio, or to mitigate performance concerns resulting from our system architecture design.

We have attempted to thoroughly document all relevant implementation details here, so that you can provide a great user experience for your users when they use your player client app with Radiccio Server.

Our intention is to fully participate in the OpenSubsonic community, with the goal of helping all clients and servers work together better.

This documentation assumes an existing basic familiarity with the OpenSubsonic specification. If you have not read that already, please do so first.

After that, please review our documentation thoroughly, as we hope and anticipate that it will answer many questions you may have. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Radiccio-specific features

Radiccio extends the OpenSubsonic protocol to provide features like pins, auto skip, and journal. You can use these features in your client or server, if you want. But first, this is very important:

Please do not identify your client or server as Radiccio.

This is absolutely not necessary in order to use Radiccio-specific features, and it will only confuse users. Radiccio does not gate any features or functionality based on whether or not the client or server identifies itself as Radiccio.

We have provided ways for you to test for all Radiccio-specific features and functionality in the form of vendor-prefixed extensions. Please see the extensions page for more information about this.
